Over the past week, I’ve been sharing some fun ideas for portable breakfasts that you can easily grab on your way out the door to school, daycare, and/or work. September is a busy month for many of us, with school and various activities starting up again. Getting back into a routine can be challenging, so these breakfast ideas will help make your morning run smoother. Here’s a recap of the ideas I’ve posted:
Peanut Butter, Jelly and Banana Overnight Oats: It’s like your favourite PB & J sandwich in a jar! These refrigerator oats are perfect for busy mornings.
Yogurt Parfait Breakfast Popsicles: Eat popsicles for breakfast with these healthy frozen treats made with layers of yogurt, fruit & granola
Blueberry Almond Flour Mug Muffin – Unlike a regular muffin, this one is low in carbs and can be made in the microwave in just minutes.
Egg in a Jar – Microwaved egg in a jar is surprisingly good and so easy to make!
Pumpkin Cream Cheese Smoothie Bowl – Make this fall smoothie bowl in a thermos so you can keep it thick and cold, and take it with you on busy mornings.
More Grab-and-Go Breakfasts:
Muffins are pretty much the ultimate grab-and-go breakfast food. If you have time to make a big batch, freeze them so you can pull them out as you need them. Here are some of my favourite healthy muffin recipes for breakfast:
Oat Bran, Yogurt and Berry Muffins
Baked Oatmeal is sort of like a combination of muffins and oatmeal. It can be enjoyed in a bowl, cut up into squares or baked in muffins tins to bring along with you.
Baked Oatmeal – There are so many varieties to try, and this post will help get you started.
“Baked” Oatmeal in a Mug – This is by far my most popular recipe right now! It’s apple and banana oatmeal that you “bake” in your microwave.
Good old oatmeal is nice for cold mornings when you want something to not only keep you full, but warm, too. You can either make your own instant oatmeal, or set up steel-cut oats in your slow cooker the night before so you have oatmeal ready to go in the morning. Take it with you in a thermos for an on-the-go breakfast.

You can also buy portable bowls of oatmeal from Modern Oats (affiliate link). We were given some samples recently, and the whole family enjoyed them. They’re all-natural and very high in fiber.
If you have leftover oatmeal, you can make Breakfast Cookies! Like muffins, they’re easy to freeze for later. Here are a couple of recipes, using leftover oatmeal:
Peanut Butter and Banana Breakfast Cookies – This one is really popular at the moment!
Soft Oatmeal and Banana Breakfast Cookies
Pancakes and Waffles can be made in big batches and frozen, so when you’re in a hurry, you can grab some from the freezer and reheat them in the toaster.
Smoothies are always a good idea for a grab-and-go breakfast. Just pour them into a travel cup and you’re ready to go!
Healthy squares and bars can make terrific breakfasts to take on-the-go:
Fruit and Nut Bars with Quinoa
Strawberry Yogurt Cereal Squares
So there you have it! There are 40 ideas up there to help get you through those crazy school mornings ahead. Best of luck to those of you who have kids starting back at school. I can’t believe another summer has gone by!
