Edible Fake Blood

Make edible fake blood using 1 tbsp light corn syrup, 1/2 tbsp chocolate syrup, 4 drops red food coloring. Great for decorating Halloween treats or face painting.

Halloween is almost here, so I wanted to share a really simple recipe for fake blood that’s not only edible, but actually tastes good. I made this last year when Cole wanted to be a zombie.  We added a little of this “blood” to his face and it worked perfectly. It’s also fun for finger painting, or splattering on Halloween crafts and baked goods. You can make pretty much any cookies or cupcakes scarier with blood spatters.

So here’s all you need to do:

In a small bowl or measuring cup, mix 1 tbsp light corn syrup, 1/2 tbsp chocolate syrup, 4 drops red food coloring.

That’s it!

This year, Cole is a vampire so I’ll probably be using this recipe again. Bennett’s going to be a minion from Despicable Me and Ayla’s  dressing up as a pink love-bug, so we won’t need fake blood for those two.  What are your kids (and you) going to be for Halloween this year?

Do you think this would work for a halloween party crime scene? I want to do some kind of blood splatter in our bathtub for the party but I’m afraid that the fake blood from the store will stain.

Because it has food colouring it could stain. I’ve heard adding coffee mate powder to the fake blood will make it washable but I’ve never tried it.
